The Lesson
Acts 2:42-47
Those who had been baptized devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. Awe came upon everyone, because many wonders and signs were being done by the apostles. All who believed were together and had all things in common; they would sell their possessions and goods and distribute the proceeds to all, as any had need. Day by day, as they spent much time together in the temple, they broke bread at home and ate their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having the goodwill of all the people. And day by day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved.

It's an interesting picture of the early Church that is painted for us in this text. It sounds wonderful, and yet if we tried to reduplicate it, we'd be called socialist fools. And yet the remarkable thing is that we are told here of the wisdom of this way.
There is something beautiful in this. The community takes care of one another. No one is left untouched by the mercy of the community. We would do well to reduplicate that piece of this text. If we can't, then how can we call ourselves Christians? Jesus tells us to love one another. He desires that we care for each other, build each other up. None should be left untouched, exempt from care.
